Ed Falls - Director

Ed Falls has been a lifelong musician and music educator with deep roots in the Michigan band community. His journey began in sixth grade when he joined his school’s band program, igniting a passion for music that has carried through every chapter of his life.

After high school, Ed studied music education at Central Michigan University. Upon graduating, he spent the next 30 years directing bands in the Yale Public Schools and Gladwin Community Schools. In addition to his work in education, Ed has been an active performer and conductor with community ensembles for decades, having played with more than 14 different groups—including bands, orchestras, and pit ensembles.

Though Ed retired from teaching in 2019, his love of music and community soon brought him back. In 2022, he helped launch the Gladwin Area Community Band, continuing his lifelong commitment to community music-making. His goal is to create a welcoming, relaxed environment where people of all backgrounds can come together to enjoy making music. “To have the opportunity to lead this group means a great deal to me,” he says. “It has given me a chance to give back to the musical community that has given me so much—and to continue sharing the joy of making music with others. We have fun, we support each other, and we share something truly special with our community.”
